Finding the Good in a World Like Ours

Our world is ugly. Wretched. Disturbing. Hateful.

Today, via news sites and Twitter updates, I've been reminded of this gruesome truth. "Churches" (aka hate groups using a religion as a mask) continue their despicable picketing (don't even get me started), teenage boys laugh while filming the rape of a drugged girl...and are defended by other teenage girls!, soldiers dying, civilians dying, children dying... The list goes ever on until I find myself utterly depressed and wondering what the point is...or raging at the computer screen like these morons in the news stories can hear me.

And then, a little girl comes up to me and tells me I'm pretty - pretty with no makeup on and my hair pulled back. I go back to the computer, and I read Urban Farming Guys' blog again. If you don't know of them, they're a group of families that moved to one of our worst cities to breath life back into it with gardens and urban homestead living.

And I remember that there is, in fact, some beauty in this world of ours - some soldier who will take in a starving kitten and nurse it back to health, some mother who will shield her children with her body during a twister or house fire, some homeless person who will give back a diamond ring that was accidentally left with him, some little lavender weed growing bravely out of a crack in the pavement.

It's the little things, my lovelies, the little things which make the bad worth it in the end.

And I hope, every so often, I can be one of those little things for someone else.

Grace and Peace.
